St. Patrick eliminates Wesson boys

BILOXI – The St. Patrick Fighting Irish defeated the Wesson Cobras 9-1 in the opening round of the MHSAA Class 1A-2A-3A soccer playoffs Tuesday night.

The Cobras, coached by John Douglas, concluded their soccer season with an 8-6 record overall. Wesson finished second in the district with a 4-2 record behind the Franklin County Bulldogs.

Junior Fidel Mellado scored the only goal for the Cobras in the loss. Mellado also collected three steals.

Senior Dylan Ingle was the leader on defense for the Cobras with nine steals. Steven Dennis provided eight steals. Marcus Jones had seven steals. Kelvin Casanova and Justin Morgan finished with six steals apiece.

Alex Mooney earned seven saves as goalie.
