UTICA – With a 15-2, 6-2 record, the Co-Lin Lady Wolves were hitting on all cylinders in a 73-52 South Division win over the Hinds Lady Bulldogs Thursday. Led by sophomore Kelly Allen’s 22 points, the Lady Wolves shot a sizzling 57 percent from the field.

Co-Lin will host the Pearl River Lady Wildcats in a key South Division game on Monday at 6 p.m.

One minute into the game the Lady Bulldogs tied the game 2-2. The Lady Wolves pulled away quickly with solid shooting and fundamental passing. During the second quarter, Co-Lin suffered some costly turnovers that allowed the Lady Bulldogs to whittle the lead down to just one. The Lady Wolves quickly regained focus and went on a 10-0 run allowing the team to take momentum into halftime.

Sophomore Jamilah Sanders, who recently battled back from injury, had a hot hand from beyond the arc. Sanders was 4-of-5 from three-point range on the night, with three of them coming in the third quarter. When the team was not knocking down baskets from mid-range, they would find Allen in the paint.

Co-Lin head coach Gwyn Young was happy to get the win, but already has his eyes on the future. “All the games from now on are really important to get one of those four spots in the South Division for the state tournament,” said Young. “We have to be focused and ready to play.”

In addition to her 22 points, Allen pulled down nine rebounds, blocked three shots and had four steals. Sanders pumped in 16 points, brought down six rebounds, and dished out a team high five assists. Alexis Collins netted 15 points and Tytiana Hall chipped in 10.

Alexia Williams led the Lady Bulldogs with 14 points while Annessia Durham poured in another 11. Isheer Davis led Hinds in rebounds with eight.

Co-Lin shot 57 percent (29-of-51) from the floor, 56 percent (5-of-9) from beyond the arc, and 71 percent (10-of-14) from the foul line. The Lady Bulldogs shot 33 percent (20-of-61) from the floor, 21 percent (3-of-14) from three-point range, and 75 percent (9-of-12) from the free throw line.
