WESSON – A team effort allowed the Co-Lin Lady Wolves (16-2, 7-2) to defeat the Pearl River Lady Wildcats 84-43 Monday night. Eleven different Lady Wolves would get in the scoring column.

Co-Lin, riding a four-game winning streak will look to carry this momentum into Thursday night’s game when it hosts rival Jones County. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.

Both teams got off to a slow start offensively as it appeared it would be a defensive battle. However, late in the first quarter the Lady Wolves began to find their rhythm as they held an 18-10 lead.

The second quarter saw back and forth action with the Lady Wildcats outscoring the Lady Wolves 16-15. Co-Lin would take a 33-26 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Lady Wolves limited Pearl River to only seven points in the third quarter and 10 in the fourth. Along with the lock-down defense, the offense began to click. The Lady Wolves shot a blistering 48 percent in the second half.

“We actually executed in the second half,” said Co-Lin head coach Gwyn Young. “We’ve been working on fundamentals lately and we clearly did a better job of that. Our defense stepped up, and in the fourth quarter it gave us an opportunity to sub out the starters and let the other players get some experience.

Sophomore guard Alexis Collins led the Lady Wolves team with a game-high 19 points and five assists. Kelley Allen added a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Andreal Fleming came off the bench to net 10 points and grab seven boards.

Akayla Powell led the Lady Wildcats with 10 points while Asia Thibodeaux chipped in nine. Shaniqua Magee led the team with nine rebounds.

Co-Lin shot 48 percent (30-of-63) from the field, 35 percent (6-of-17) from three-point range, and 72 percent (18-of-25) from the foul line. The Lady Wildcats shot only 26 percent (15-of-57) from the field, 30 percent (3-of-10) from the field, and 48 percent (10-of-21) from the free throw line.
