ACCS eliminates BA boys

NATCHEZ – The Brookhaven Academy Lady Cougars defeated Simpson Academy 37-31 Wednesday night in the opening round of the MAIS AAA Division tournament at Adams County Christian School.

In boys’ action, ACCS ended BA’s season with a 57-45 victory. The Cougars concluded their season with a 13-14 record overall.

The Lady Cougars (18-12) will advance to the semifinals of the district tournament and will play the Columbia Academy Lady Cougars at ACCS.

Brookhaven Acad. 37, Simpson Acad. 31

In a battle of Lady Cougars, BA and Simpson Academy fought hard with BA securing a 18-17 lead at halftime.

In the second half, BA outscored Simpson Academy 19-14 to eliminate the Mendenhall-based team.

Sophie Wilson powered BA with 10 points and two rebounds. Kailyn Jordan and Anna-Michael Smith contributed eight points apiece. Jordan was also the leader on the boards with nine rebounds. Edie Riley provided seven points and had three rebounds. Sissy Byrd netted four points and had two rebounds.

Nikki Eubanks was the top scorer for Simpson Academy with 10 points. Anna Grace Harvey chipped in eight points and Molly Shotts scored six points.

ACCS 57, BA 45 

Brookhaven Academy secured an early 18-15 advantage, but in the second quarter the Rebels rallied back to tie the game at 25-25.

In the third quarter, the contest remained close as the Rebels held a 38-34 lead.

In the fourth, the Rebels outscored the Cougars 19-11 to collect the victory.

Ethan Nations directed the Cougars with 18 points and three rebounds. Austin Smith netted nine points and had three rebounds. Ross Felder, Dylan Winborne and Cade Brown provided six points apiece. Winborne was the leader on the boards with eight rebounds, Felder had five rebounds and Brown collected four rebounds.

Devin Spears pumped in a game-high 20 points to lead the Rebels. Sneh Patel and Darius Denby chipped in with 10 points each. Brody Cole added eight points.
