Port Gibson sweeps Wesson

PORT GIBSON – Port Gibson captured two division wins over Wesson Tuesday night in Region 7-3A action.
In the girls’ contest, the Lady Blue Wave defeated the Lady Cobras 51-27.
In boys’ action, Port Gibson crushed the Cobras 75-44.
Wesson will wrap up the regular season on the road Friday as the Cobras and Lady Cobras travel to Woodville to take on division rival Wilkinson County for two games to decide division rankings. The girls tip off at 6, followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
Lady Blue Wave 51, Lady Cobras 27
Port Gibson carried a 20-13 lead into halftime and overpowered the Lady Cobras 31-14 in the final two quarters to collect the win.
Jerrineisha Barton was a top scorer for the Lady Cobras with seven points. Aurianna Vaughn also contributed seven points. Jashia Smith provided five points. Carnesha Green scored four points. Jamiya Christmas had three points and Alaysha Vaughn finished with two points.
Port Gibson 75, Wesson 44
Port Gibson led 14-13 after one quarter and flooded the Cobras with a 23-8 run to close out the first half leading 37-21.
In the second half, Port Gibson outscored Wesson 38-23 to secure the division victory.
Anthony Jones powered the Cobras with 23 points. Eric Rhymes chipped in 15 points. Brian Thomas netted three points. Randy Hooker scored two points and Cornelius Barlow had one point.
Marvin Harvey directed the Blue Wave’s scoring with 14 points. Waurtez Wilson provided 12 points. James White contributed 10 points. Demarcus Johnson and Javontae Fry scored nine points each.
