Lady Wolves sweep the Baton Rouge

BATON ROUGE – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves improved to 5-1 on the season with a pair of wins against the Baton Rouge Community College Lady. Jessica Crum led the offensive with three homeruns on the day, while Lauren Brashier reached base seven out of eight at bats. The hot-hitting Lady Wolves racked up 29 hits and 11 runs on the day.

The Lady Wolves return to action Monday when they host the Hinds Lady Eagles for a doubleheader at Lady Wolves Field

Sophomore pitcher Kaitlyn Taylor pitched a complete game allowing two earned runs, scattering 10 hits, striking out nine and walking one.

After a scoreless first inning, Brittany Barbay led off the top of the second with a solo shot to left field. The Lady Bears answered in the bottom half of the inning scoring two runs to take a 2-1 lead.

Crum belted a two run home run in the third inning to give the Lady Wolves a 3-1 lead.

Taylor scored the only other run for the Lady Wolves as she stole home in the fourth inning.

“KT (Taylor) pitched well in this game,” said Lady Wolves head coach Allen Kent. “We weren’t as patient at the plate as we should have been with runners in scoring position though.”

Alyssa Bush suffered the loss for the Lady Bears allowing four earned runs on 11 hits and striking out four in 4.1 innings of work. Haley Tassing tossed 2.2 innings allowing three hits and walking two.

Crum led the Lady Wolves with a home run and two singles (2 RBIs). Freshman Trevlynn Scott had three singles. Brashier had a two doubles. Barbay homered. Taylor and Diana Hobgood doubled. Adding support with a single apiece were Kamryn Vanlandingham, Dianna Hobgood, MacKenzie Byrd, and Katie Grace Culpepper.

Royelle Cobb led the Lady Bears with a double and two singles (1 RBI). Kassilyn Rojes singled twice. Haley Tassin doubled Michala Hughes finished the game with a single (1 RBI).

The Lady Wolves jumped ahead early 3-0 in the first inning of game two. Taylor hitting a solo home run to left field. Vanlandingham followed with a single. Crum hit her second two-run home run on the day.

The lead was extended to 4-0 in the fourth inning as Crum hit her second home run of the game, her third of the day, a solo shot over the center field wall.

Brashier continued her hot hitting with a two-run double to right field in the sixth inning that scored Crum and Madison Hyde. Culpepper crossed the plate on the throw home to extended the Lady Wolves lead to 7-0.

In the bottom of the sixth, Baton Rouge plated three runs to cut the lead to 7-3. They added another run in the bottom of the seventh to make it 7-4.

“We played error free in the second game and Kamry Creel had a great start, and started getting back into form after not pitching since last spring,” said Kent. “We still left too many runners stranded and have to work on being disciplined at the plate.”

Creel earned the win for the Lady Wolves with one earned run on five hits, struck out two and walked two in five innings of work. Trevlynn Scott threw two innings allowing three earned runs on five hits, striking out one and walking one.

Taylor Toledano suffered the loss for Baton Rouge giving up four earned runs on 12 hits and walking one in five innings. Tassin threw two innings for the Lady Bears allowing three earned runs on three hits and walking two.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Brashier led the 15 hit attack at the plate with two doubles and a single (3 RBIs). Crum had two home runs for three RBIs. Kayla Britt and Vanlandingham all had a double and a single. Taylor homered and singled. Also hitting safely were Barbay, Culpepper, Greta Carley, and Mattie Avants.

Virginia Cacciupo and Morgan Berry led the Lady Bears with two hits apiece. Adding support with a single apiece were Taylor Corton, Alyssa Bush, Megan Smith, Toledano, Tassin, and Cobb.
