Lawmakers appointed to committees

Newly elected District 53 Mississippi Rep. Vince Mangold, R-Brookhaven, has been appointed as the vice-chair of the Agriculture Committee.

“As the 2016 session begins, I plan on remaining hard at work for our community and our state. I am pleased to announce my committee assignments in the state Legislature,” Mangold said.

Mangold will serve as a member on the following committees:

House 92 

District 92 Rep. Becky Currie, R-Brookhaven, continues her eight-year service as the chair of the Tourism Committee.

Currie will serve as a member of the following committees:

•Accountability, Efficiency, Transparency

•Apportionment and Elections

•Appropriations

•Education

•Medicaid

•Rules

Currie said this year she is working on several bills, including one that will fight an insurance company refusing to pay for women’s pap smears only every three years and a mental health reform with regards to non-violent offenders or inmates who are mentally ill.

Senate 39

District 39 Sen. Sally Doty, R-Brookhaven, continues her four-year service as the chair of the Elections Committee and the vice chair of the Judiciary, Division A Committee.

Doty will serve as a member of the following committees:

•Business and Financial Institutions

•Drug Policy

•Economic Development

•Energy

•Finance

•Highways and Transportation

•Public Health and Welfare

•Public Property

•Specific Committee for Election Contests of Senate Seats

After her re-election, Doty said she was going to devote time in this term to increasing job opportunities in southwest Mississippi.
