Lincoln and Copiah counties have much to be thankful for. After an EF-2 tornado toppled tress, damaged roofs and flattened homes Monday, there were only reports of minor injuries.

It could have been much worse.

A mobile home on Jackson-Liberty Road was destroyed, but the two adults and three children inside only suffered bumps and bruises. They reported being thrown from the house.

In Wesson, school was in session when the twister hit Wesson Attendance Center. The roof was damaged and trees were snapped, but no one was hurt.

The worst damage was in the Stronghope community in Copiah County.

Copiah County Emergency Coordinator Randall Drane said that most of the Stronghope community was without power Tuesday.

Drane said there were 15 single-family homes affected in Copiah County. Eight suffered minimal damage and four experienced major damage. Six homes were destroyed.

Four mobile homes were destroyed, and two more suffered minimum damage. Wesson Attendance Center suffered minor damage, as did one business.

There was also reports of damage on Old Red Star Road, and a tree was blown onto a house in Brookhaven.

Though the damage was significant, there was no loss of life. In the midst of the clean-up and rebuilding, that’s something we can all be thankful for.
