Lady Wolves win final regular season game against Gulf Coast

PERKINSTON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves defeated the Mississippi Gulf Coast Lady Bulldogs with a decisive 63-53 win Thursday night in the final regular season game of the year.

The Lady Wolves (19-3, 10-3) go into next week’s MAJC State Tournament, hosted by Itawamba Community College, as the No. 3 seed out of the South Division. Co-Lin will play the No. 2 seed from the North on Tuesday game time will be announced later today. Listen to the action live at www.colinathletics.com or on WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.

Co-Lin never trailed in the game as Alexis Collins hit a quick three to start the game the Lady Wolves. They led 33-23 at the half.

The lead continued to grow through the second half as the Lady Wolves led by as many as 18 early in the fourth quarter. Co-Lin’s defense stepped up had 11 steals in the game, led by sophomore Jamilah Sanders with six. Co-Lin looked solid defensively throughout the game as the team brought down 31 defensive boards and 45 total.

“We were kind of off and on offensively tonight, be we played really solid on defensive,” said Lady Wolves head coach Gwyn Young. “I think our regular season ended being really good though.”

Collins led the Lady Wolves with 21 points. Kelley Allen posted a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Sanders had an overall outstanding game with 13 points, eight rebounds, six assists, and six steals. Debraia Bell came off the bench and netted nine points.

Courtney White led Mississippi Gulf Coast with 12 points. Markeisha Watson added a double-double performance with 11 points and 14 rebounds.

Co-Lin shot 37 percent (22-of-59) from the field, 22 percent (2-of-9) from three-point range, and 77 percent (17-of-22) from the free throw line. Gulf Coast shot 38 percent (24-of-63) from the field, 23 percent (3-of-13) from beyond the arc, and 29 percent (2-of-7) from the foul line.
