Laurel beats Lady Panthers

LAUREL – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers’ season came to an end Monday night after falling to the Laurel Golden Lady Tornadoes 51-45 in the opening round of the Class 5A state playoffs.

The Lady Panthers, coached by Preston Wilson, finished the season with a 3-23 record overall.

The Lady Panthers kicked off the first period strong as they put together a run to secure an 8-3 lead. In the second, Laurel rallied back with a 20-10 run, led by Tamirral Karkins’ 12 points, to take a 23-18 lead at halftime.

Laurel won the scoring spread 34-27 in the final two quarters to collect the win.

Taylor Carters directed the Lady Panthers scoring with 16 points. Tamia Stallings contributed seven points. Asia Byrd chipped in six points. Johnique Jones provided five points. Cheyenne Motley netted four points. Mya Washington score three points. Angel Washington and Miyah Miller finished with two points each.

Harkins paced the Lady Tornadoes with a 23-point effort. Breanna Knight provided eight points. Zantavia Glenn scored six points. Queriteshia Jones added five points.
