Burning cross found in Lawrence
The FBI has been notified of an apparent cross-burning in Lawrence County, according to the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office.
The office issued a notice on Facebook saying that it received a report of the incident Thursday evening.
“Between 6 and 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 25 on Sontag Nola Road in the Sontag community someone called in something burning on the side of the road,” according to a press release. “When investigators arrived it appeared to be a small cross burning.”
The FBI has been notified and the incident is under investigation, according to the sheriff’s office.
Lawrence County Sheriff Lessie Butler said Saturday the incident is still under investigation.
“No more evidence has been collected from the scene right now,” Butler said. “We are investigating the cross to see how it was put together and see if we can get any more information off of it to send to the crime lab.”
