FRANKLINTON, LA – With the Brookhaven Academy Cougars clinging to a slim 3-2 lead going into the top of the sixth inning at Bowling Green School on the banks of the Bogue Chitto River in Washington Parish, it looked as though this one would go down to the wire. On cue, the Cougar bats came alive and the flood gates opened with BA posting 12 runs in the final two frames and coasting to a 15-2 victory Saturday.

Ignited by four-hit performances from both Madison Smith and Fisher Warren, the onslaught was kick-started by a towering grand slam home run from Smith in the sixth and the Cougars never looked back from there.

“We hit the ball great today,” said BA head coach Tyler Parvin. “It’s not often you have 20 hits in a single game, but our guys did a real good job staying patient at the plate and it paid off.” Carter Culbertson and Ross Felder each notched three hits on the afternoon while William King and Jaden Clark had a pair of hits apiece. JT Cline and Taylor Freeny rounded out offensive outburst with a single each.

Warren, a junior right hander, picked up the win for the Cougars striking out 10 Buccaneer batters while allowing just four hits in his afternoon of work.

“Warren did a great job on the mound for us today,” said Parvin. “After our extra innings game on Friday night, we were down to our only pitcher in the rotation and he stepped up and went the distance,”

BA (4-0) is schedule to play Parklane Tuesday evening in McComb and will be back in home action verses Parklane again on Thursday and these same Bowling Green Buccaneers on Friday.
