Lady Bears roar past Franklin County

West Lincoln’s eight-run explosion in the second inning was enough to put Franklin County away in a 13-2 win Monday night.

The Lady Bears (2-1) will return to action Friday as they host the Wesson Lady Cobras. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

The Lady Bears’ bats came alive in the second as they hammered out eight runs on four hits to secure an 8-0 lead over the Lady Bulldogs.

Franklin County recorded its first hit in the third inning, but was unable to advance the runner into scoring position. West Lincoln plated five more runs on four hits in the bottom of the third to gain a 13-0 advantage.

The Lady Bulldogs finally got on the scoreboard in the fourth inning on two hit-by-pitches and two walks. Franklin County scored its other run on a deep fly ball to centerfield.

Megan Gerald recorded the win for the Lady Bears on the mound. She allowed two runs in four innings of work. She struck out five, walked two and gave up one hit.

Emily Wallace suffered the loss for Franklin County. She allowed 13 runs in two innings, walked six and struck out one.

The Lady Bears were led at the plate by Makennah Redd with a single and a double. Sara Jane Doty collected a triple. Layton Sills and Peyton White each hit a double. Anna Brooke Davis, Jana Case, McKenzie Pyles, and Millane Lewis hit safely. Redd and White each had two RBIs.
