Lady Panthers feast on Vicksburg

VICKSBURG – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers blanked the Vicksburg Lady Gators 10-0 in fastpitch softball action Monday night.

“I am very proud of the way our girls adjusted at the plate,” said BHS coach Mandy Vinson. “We were able to get some good hits and execute bunts well enough to get some runs across the plate. Katherine Shell threw a really good game for us.”

The Lady Panthers (3-0) will resume action Thursday as they host the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

Lady Panthers 10, Lady Gators 0 

The Lady Panthers and the Lady Gators battled in a scoreless contest until the top of the fifth, when Brookhaven pushed across one run to take the lead.

The Lady Panthers then hammered out nine runs in the sixth and seventh to claim a 10-0 lead. They held Vicksburg scoreless to collect the win.

Katherine Shell was the winning pitcher for the Lady Panthers. She struck out 18 batters and did not allow any walks.

Olivia Oakes suffered the loss for the Lady Gators with two strikeouts and no walks.

Tia Bussey powered the Lady Panthers with a triple and a single. Shell contributed a double and a single. Miley Moak ripped a triple. Kat Wallace provided a double. Hitting safely were Macy Brabham and Rileigh Allen.

Oakes recorded the only hits for the Lady Gators with two singles.

In junior varsity action, Brookhaven beat Vicksburg 8-1.

Madison Thompson pitched the win for Brookhaven with no strikeouts and two walks.

Males Moak paced the Lady Panthers at the plate with three singles. Madi Miller, Meg Foster and Marli Peden hit safely.
