A pedestrian was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver on MS 552 early Wednesday morning in Jefferson County.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M responded to the accident around 12:43 a.m.

According to Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry, the vehicle was traveling eastbound on MS 552 when it came into contact with a pedestrian in the east bound lane. The vehicle that struck the pedestrian left the scene of the accident. The pedestrian was identified as Antonio C. Carter, 39, from Natchez. Carter was pronounced dead on the scene by the coroner. The accident is still under investigation.
