Lady Cougars edge Wesson

MONTICELLO – The Lawrence County Lady Cougars prevailed 1-0 over the Wesson Lady Cobras in fastpitch softball action in Monticello.

The Lady Cougars (1-2), coached by Meleah Howard, continue action today as they visit Loyd Star to battle the Lady Hornets. Junior varsity action begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

The Lady Cobras (2-1), coached by Michelle Nunnery, will be in action today as they invade West Lincoln to take on the Lady Bears. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6 p.m.

Lady Cougars 1, Lady Cobras 0 

The Lady Cougars and the Lady Cobras fought in a defensive battled through seven innings of action, before Lawrence County managed to push across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to collect the win.

Jordan Harp pitched the win for the Lady Cougars with 11 strikeouts and two walks.

Amber Brinson suffered the setback in the pitching circle for the Lady Cobras with seven strikeouts and one walk.

Callie Fortenberry paced the Lady Cougars’ offense with two singles. Maddux Kirkland and Abbie Errington hit safely.

The Lady Cobras were directed at the plate with a single each from Arie Douglas, Brooke Jones and Layne Crapps.
