Lady Hornets crush Richland

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets blanked the Richland Lady Rangers 10-0 Thursday night in fastpitch softball action at Jan Smith Delaughter Field.
The Lady Hornets (1-2), coached by Jan Delaughter, will continue action today as they host the Lawrence County Lady Cougars. Junior varsity action begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
Lady Hornets 10, Lady Rangers 0
The Lady Hornets came out and dominated the Lady Rangers in a five-inning contest to collect the shut out victory.
McKenzie Smith was the winning pitcher for the Lady Hornets with six strikeouts and no walks.
Kayla Jenkins absorbed the lost in pitching circle for the Lady Rangers with three strikeouts and two walks. Bryanna White (0K, 0BB) and Riley Childers (1K, 0BB) also pitched in relief.
Abigail Thornton powered the Lady Hornets’ attack with a home run and a single. Alli Gartman contributed two singles. Shelby Smith and Madison Jones provided a double each. Hitting safely was Megan Norton, Johnna Norman and McKenzie Smith.
Briana Shores recorded the only hit for the Lady Rangers’ offense with a single.
In junior varsity action, Loyd Star defeats Richland 5-2.
