McComb edges Brookhaven

The McComb Tigers squeezed out a narrow 9-8 victory over the Brookhaven Panthers Thursday night in the Ole Brook Invitational at Moyer Field.

“This was a tough loss for our guys,” said BHS coach Randy Spring. “The guys did a great job fighting their way back into game. McComb has improved a lot since year and they made the plays at the end to get the win.”

The Panthers (0-4) will continue action today as they host the Lawrence County Cougars for a doubleheader. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.

McComb 9, Brookhaven 8 

The Tigers came out strong in the first three innings to take a commanding 7-2 lead.

The Panthers rallied back in the bottom of the fifth with a six-run surge to take the lead at 8-7. McComb reclaimed the lead by scoring two runs in the sixth and seventh, and held on for the win.

Jamiah Andrews collected the win for the Tigers in relief with two strikeouts and three walks.

Sevante Quinn suffered the setback on the mound for the Panthers with one strikeout and two walks. Tate Wally (2K, 2 BB) was the starting pitcher for Brookhaven.

Blaine Moak was the top hitter for the Panthers with two singles. Reese Reynaud provided a double. Hitting safely were Brandon Henyard, Logan Emfinger, Tate Walley, Tyler Mixon and Jon-Mark Mathis.

Ja’Terrious Wilson paced the Tigers’ offense with two singles. Equerious Brumfield had a double. Kendrick Butler, Crishuan Speights, Cameron Johnson and Detavious Bond hit a single each.
