Funeral services for William Dewell Alexander are Saturday, March 5, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Providence Baptist Church in Jayess with burial to follow at Greer Cemetery. Sharkey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 

Visitation is Saturday, March 5, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at Providence Baptist Church.

Mr. Alexander, 89, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Brookhaven. He was born on Jan. 23, 1927, in Jayess to Wood and Undine Dunaway Alexander.

He was a graduate of Jayess High School. He was a member of Providence Baptist Church in Jayess. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II. He was a retired machinist from Georgia Pacific.

Preceding him in death were his parents, Wood and Undine Dunaway Alexander; wives, Willene Rayborn Alexander and Pauline Rials Alexander; brothers, Henry Alexander and Darwin Alexander; and sister, Willie Mae Brister.

Survivors are his daughter, Shirley Alexander Rutland and husband, Jack Jr., of Brookhaven; son, William D. Alexander Jr. and wife, Linda, of Jackson, Louisiana; brother, Denver Alexander of Jayess; sister, Eunice Alexander Greer of Jayess; grandchildren, Amanda Alexander Dixon and husband, Jason, Jamie Rutland Grosshans and husband, Joshua, Jennifer Alexander Chipman and husband, Kevin, and Alex William Alexander and wife, Billie Jo; great-grandchildren, Avery, Jack and Alice Grosshans, Megan, Layne, Nikki and Ozzie Chipman and Lauren, Kaitlin, William, Sophie and Gavin Alexander; and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of the ICU at King’s Daughters Medical Center. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Providence Baptist Church or a charity of your choice.
