The West Lincoln Lady Bears rallied back in the bottom of the seventh inning to beat the Wesson Lady Cobras 8-7 Friday night. Layton Sills’ game-winning single scored Makennah Redd for the win.

“I thought the girls played well tonight,” said West Lincoln coach Andrew Redd. “Even with our backs against the wall in the sixth and seventh innings, we were able to put some hits together and come away with a good win.”

The Lady Bears (2-2) will return to action Friday when they travel Wesson to take on the Lady Cobras. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15.

Lady Bears 8, Lady Cobras 7 

Wesson jumped on the Lady Bears in the second inning to secure a 3-0 lead, but West Lincoln battled back to cut into Wesson’s lead at 3-1.

The Lady Cobras continued their strong hitting in the third through sixth innings as they commanded a 7-1 lead over the Lady Bears.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, West Lincoln’s offense caught fire and the Lady Bears collected five runs on five hits to go into the seventh down 7-6.

In the seventh, West Lincoln’s defense held Wesson scoreless. With two outs in the bottom of the inning, West Lincoln’s Millane Lewis reached on an error to keep the game alive. Redd hit a triple to tie the game up at 7-7. Sills then hit the game-winning single.

The Lady Bears collected 10 hits. West Lincoln was led at the plate by McKenzie Pyles with a triple, single and two RBIs. Sills hit a double, a single and two RBIs. Redd ripped a triple and had one RBI. Megan Gerald hit a triple. Sara Jane Doty, Anna Brooke Davis, Lewis and Peyton White hit safely.

Wesson was led at the plate by Shelbi Maxwell’s three singles and one RBI. Catherine Wilson provided a double and earned an RBI. Brooke Jones hit a double. Harmoni Ashley had a two-RBI single. Katie McSweyn hit safely and collected an RBI.

Gerald recorded the win for the Lady Bears, allowing seven runs over seven innings. She struck out four, walked three and surrendered 14 hits.

Laynee Crapps was charged with the loss. She allowed eight runs in 6 2/3 innings, walked none and struck out seven.
