Funeral services for Nena Champer Fox, 99, are on Monday, March 7, 2016, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church at 11 a.m. with burial in the Catholic Cemetery in Brookhaven. Brookhaven Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Visitation is on Monday, March 7, 2016, from 10 a.m. until time of the service. In addition, there will be a rosary held on Sunday, March 6, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. at St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Madison.

Mrs. Fox died on Thursday, March 3, 2016, with her family by her side at St Dominic Hospital in Jackson. She was born on Nov. 11, 1916, in Lindsburg, Louisiana. After World War II, Nena and her husband Dave Fox moved to Brookhaven where they lived for 30 years and raised their daughter. Nena was very active in St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. She was a homemaker and bookkeeper and served as Brownie and Girl Scout leader. Her favorite pastime and her passion was tennis. She played tennis, talked tennis and wanted everyone to learn to play the game. She taught numerous people to play tennis and was a tennis coach at Brookhaven High School.

Nena moved to Ridgeland in 1979 shortly after the death of her husband. She was one of the charter members of St Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Madison and served as church secretary. Nena loved working with youth and served as a mentor for many young women everywhere she lived. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, her selflessness, her never-ending encouragement and her support and unconditional love for her family and friends. Her family was everything to her. Her light shone bright, and she was spunky and full of life and kept them laughing. To know her love was a true blessing.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister; two brothers; and her husband, David L. Fox.

Survivors are her daughter, Nancy Batson and husband, Jim, of Ridgeland; grandsons, Scott Batson and wife, Amy, of Jonesboro, Arkansas, and Jonathan Batson and wife, Leah, of Brandon; granddaughter, Amy Wilkinson and husband, Billy, of Madison; and great-grandchildren, Will, Drew, Brooks, Jon Foster, Emma and Annie Batson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Nena’s name may be made to Blair E. Batson Hospital for Children.
