Wesson beats Brookhaven

The Wesson Cobras knocked off the Brookhaven Panthers 13-9 in Saturday’s Ole Brook baseball classic at Moyer Field.

The Cobras (4-1), coached by Seth Lofton, will resume action Tuesday as they travel to Crystal Springs to take on the Tigers, starting at 3:30 p.m.

The Panthers (0-6), coached by Randy Spring, will also be in action Tuesday as they travel to Monticello to play Florence in Lawrence County’s Spring Break Tournament.

Wesson 13, Brookhaven 9

The Cobras and the Panthers battled back and forth in the first two innings of action with the score tied at 3-3.

In the fourth, Wesson plated four runs to secure a 7-3 lead, but the Panthers would work to keep the game close as they scored one run.

In the final two innings, both teams scored five run each as Wesson held on to collect the win.

The Cobras used a three-man rotation on the mound with Peyton Burns (1K, 8BB), Will McInnis (2K, 3BB) and Alex Mooney (1K, 1BB).

Blaine Moak suffered the setback on the mound for the Panthers with no strikeouts and three walks.

Max Daughdrill directed the Cobras’ offense with two doubles. Jeremy Smith contributed three singles. Jimmie McQuage provided two singles. Payton Selman and Mooney hit safely.

Moak was the top hitter for the Panthers with a double. Clint Stephens, Brandon Henyard and Tyler Mixon hit a single each.
