Lady Wolves bats too much for Mississippi Delta

MOORHEAD – Nothing could stop the Co-Lin Lady Wolves offense Monday as the team scored 35 runs on 34 hits as they swept a doubleheader from the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans.
The explosive performance resulted in both games being called after five innings of play with the Lady Wolves taking game one 18-3 and the nightcap 17-2.
“We had a great outing today. We were very disciplined at the plate,” said Lady Wolves head coach Allen Kent.
The Lady Wolves are back in action Friday as they travel to Scooba to take on the East Mississippi Lady Lions for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
Co-Lin 18, MS Delta 3 (5 innings)
The Lady Wolves exploded for seven runs in the top of the first inning as they sent 12 batters to the plate before the Lady Trojans could record an out. Kayla Britt led off the game with a single followed by a Lauren Brashier double. Jessica Crum hit her first of two home runs in the game to put the Lady Wolves up 3-0. Kaitlyn Taylor and Trevlyn Scott reached base on a pair of Mississippi Delta errors. Dianna Hobgood followed with a rip that scored Taylor from second. Greta Carley singled to load the bases. Scott and Hobgood crossed the plate later in the inning off of an error from the Lady Trojan short stop. Katie Grace Culpepper drove in Greta Carley with a hard ground ball to center to increase the Co-Lin lead to 7-0.
In the second, Hobgood put the Lady Wolves up 8-0 on a solo home run to center field. The Lady Trojans got on the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning on a solo home run by Gabby Smith.
The Lady Wolves picked up five more runs in the top of the third inning. Culpepper reached second on a two-base error by the left fielder. With two outs, Crum cranked out her second homer of the day to put the Lady Wolves up 10-1. Taylor drew a walk and came across the plate as Scott hit a two-run shot that cleared the center field fence. The final run of the inning came as Hobgood and Carley hit back-to-back singles. Madison Hyde drew a walk that loaded the bases. Culpepper reached on an error by the shortstop that drove in Hobgood as the Lady Wolves increased their lead to 13-1.
Co-Lin plated three more runs in the top of the fourth inning as they pushed their lead to 16-1. Brashier led off the inning with a double to left field. Crum drew a walk. Taylor advanced the runners with a ground out. Scott’s RBI single to center drove in Brashier. Hobgood reached on an error that plated courtesy runner Kamryn Vanlandingham. Carley loaded the bases with a single to center. Culpepper hit a hard ground ball to second that resulted in a Lady Trojan error and scored Scott from third.
The Lady Trojans closed the gap to 16-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning as Montana Warrington drove in a pair with a single to center field.
The Lady Wolves answered with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth. Brashier led off the inning with a single to right field. Vanlandingham drew a walk. Kamry Creel singled. Scott’s RBI single to left scored Vanlandingham. Jamie Martin’s grounder to second plated Creel.
Leading the Lady Wolves 17 hit attack was Brashier with a pair of doubles and a single. Scott (4 RBIs) and Hobgood (3 RBIs) had a home run and a pair of singles apiece. Carley had three singles. Crum added two home runs for five RBIs. Culpepper (1 RBI), Britt, and Creel added support with a single apiece.
Taylor earned the win for the Lady Wolves allowing one earned run on two hits and striking out one in two innings of work. Lauren Brashier tossed the next two innings giving up two runs on three hits and striking out one. Kamry Creel pitched a scoreless inning striking out one.
For the Lady Trojans, Smith led the way with a home run. Hitting safely were Jada Mcintosh, Mercedes Johnson, Warrington, and Nikki Tabat.
Jamie O’Neil suffered the loss allowing seven runs (3 earned) on six hits, and walking one in one inning. Catrina Hall tossed the remaining four innings giving up 11 runs (4 earned) on 11 hits, striking out one and walking four.
Co-Lin 17, MS Delta 2
The Lady Wolves continued to tee off on Mississippi Delta pitching. They took a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Vanlandingham led off with a single to center. Brashier reached on a fielder’s choice. Crum drew a walk to load the bases. Scott drew a walk that scored Vanlandingham. Taylor drew a walk that would plate Brashier. With one out, Martin singled to score Crum. Mackenzie Byrd was hit by a pitch, which scored Scott.
Mississippi Delta closed the gap to 4-1 in the bottom half of the inning.
The second inning saw the Lady Wolves send 18 batters to the plate and score 13 runs. Brashier led off the inning with a triple to center field. Crum and Scott drew walks that loaded the bases. Taylor drew a walk that scored Brashier. Brittany Barbay singled to right to drive in Crum as the Lady Wolves increased their lead to 6-1. With one out, Byrd’s RBI single to center plated Scott. Vanlandingham singled to score Barbay. Brashier’s 2-run double to center plated Byrd and Mattie Avants and the Lady Wolves were up 10-1. Crum and Scott drew walks to load the bases. Taylor’s single to left scored Brashier. With the bases loaded and two outs, Barbay hit a grand slam, her second of the season, over the left field wall as the Lady Wolves took a commanding 16-1 lead. Martin doubled to centerfield, Byrd reached on an error that advanced Martin to third. Avants singled to center to score Martin to give Co-Lin a 17-1 advantage.
The Lady Trojans added a single run in the bottom of the fifth inning to make the final score 17-2.
“They had no answer for (Trevlyn) Scott today, as she gave up only three hits,” said Kent.
Scott earned the win as she threw a complete five-inning game giving up two runs (1 earned) on three hits, striking out three.
Johnson took the loss for the Lady Trojans as she allowed 14 earned runs on seven hits and walked eight in 1.2 innings. O’Neil pitched the final 3.1 innings giving up 3 runs (2 earned) on 10 hits.
At the plate for Co-Lin, Vanlandingham had a double and two singles (1 RBI). Brashier had a triple and a double (2 RBIs). Barbay had a grand slam and a single (5 RBIs). Martin doubled and singled (1 RBI). Britt added a double. Avants had a pair of singles for and RBI. Adding support with a single apiece were Byrd (2 RBIs), Creel, Taylor (3 RBIs), Hobgood, and Hyde.
For the Lady Trojans, Taylor Lathern doubled. Hitting safely were Quaneisha Pratt and Brianna Knox.
