Lady Cats rally to beat Columbia

COLUMBIA – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats defeated the Columbia Wildcats 5-3 in fastpitch softball action Tuesday night.

“We were clutch tonight,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “The girls did a great job fighting their way back into the game. Codi Leggett pitched a great game for us. Overall, I am very proud of my girls’ effort.”

The Lady Cats (3-2) are scheduled to return to action Friday, if weather permits, as they host Stone County. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m. The game against Franklin County Thursday night has been rescheduled for March 21.

Lady Cats 5, Lady Wildcats 3 

Columbia captured a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but Bogue Chitto rallied back to tie the game at 1-1 in the top of the fifth inning.

The Lady Wildcats answered by plating one in the bottom of the fifth inning to reclaim the lead at 2-1 and added another run in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead to 3-1.

In the top of the seventh, the Lady Cats charged back with a four-run surge to take the lead at 5-3 and held on for the win.

Codi Leggett was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cats with six strikeouts and four walks.

Holly Monk suffered the loss for Columbia with three strikeouts and one walk.

Alana Nettles powered Bogue Chitto’s offense with a homerun. Julianna Frazier contributed three singles. Codi Leggett ripped a double and a single. Cherie Savoie and Reagan Kirkland provided two singles apiece. Stevie Montgomery and Kayci Beth Wallace hit safely.

Abby Abrams was the top hitter at the plate for Columbia with a triple and a single. Alyssa Pendergrass had a triple. Abby King provided two singles. Josie Gates and Gillian May hit a single each.

In junior varsity action, Bogue Chitto lost to Columbia 5-4.

Gracie Guynes (2K, 1BB) and Julianna Frazier (2K, 2BB) pitched for the Lady Cats.

Bogue Chitto was led at the plate by Tasia Black and Kylie Chapman with a single apiece.
