Ford F-Series pickup owners should be extra vigilant, according to Brookhaven Police Chief Bobby Bell.

Two Ford trucks have been stolen from parking lots in Brookhaven in the past week. The first happened on March 3 at Lincoln Plaza and the second at Wal-Mart Tuesday.

“I want to encourage people to be vigilant when they park their vehicles, especially the F-250s,” Bell said. “Be vigilant when you park them. Try to park them as close to the business there as you can.”

Neither vehicle has been recovered, so Bell said he couldn’t say for sure how they were stolen. However, he did say that F-Series pickups were particularly susceptible to break-ins.

“They have a device where they can punch a hole under the latch and get in some way,” Bell said. “As far as how they’re getting them started, I can’t start telling you that. I don’t know.”

Owners of F-Series pickups do have a solution for mitigating the risk of break-in: a product called the Jimmi Jammer. Essentially, a metal plate is installed behind the key mechanism. It doesn’t prevent attackers from punching a hole in the door handle, but it does prevent the break-ins.

Currently, Jimmi Jammers are only available through licensed dealers. The only one listed in Brookhaven is the Sullivan Ford dealership on Magee Drive.

Bell said they do have surveillance video of a silver Malibu driving around the vehicles. The vehicle appears to have no tag.

“And that sounds about right,” Bell said. “Either there’s going to be no tag, or it’s going to have a fake dealership tag on it.”
