West Lincoln clobbers Prentiss

PRENTISS – The West Lincoln Bears overpowered the Prentiss Bulldogs Tuesday night to claim a 22-6 victory in Region 7-2A baseball action.

“We are glad to start our division race with a win,” said West Lincoln coach David Gilbert. “The guys performed really well offensively and defensive. I was very proud of their effort.”

The Bears (5-2, 1-0) were scheduled to play Prentiss again Wednesday, but due to the weather the game was postponed. West Lincoln is set to return to action Saturday as it travels to Natchez to battle the Natchez Cathedral Green Wave. Junior varsity action begins 11 a.m., followed by the varsity game at 1 p.m.

West Lincoln 22, Prentiss 6

The Bears easily handled the Bulldogs as seven hitters combined for 13 hits, 19 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

West Lincoln scored 15 runs in the first three innings to secure a commanding 15-3 lead.

Seth Bivens powered the offensive explosion in the first inning with a three-run homerun and a RBI single. Daniel Spears and Dillon Griffin also had a RBI single. Austin Burris provided a two-run RBI double. Kylar Fielder had a RBI double.

The Bears added four more runs in the top of the third. Fielder hit a three-run homerun.

The Bulldogs plated two more runs in the bottom of the third inning to keep the game going, but the Bears responded with a 7-1 surge in the final two innings to secure the win in the fifth.

Bivens racked up five RBIs on the night with two hits for West Lincoln. Burris had two doubles and two RBIs. Fielder contributed a homerun and a double to collect four RBIs. Lofton Sills had two hits and two RBIs. Spears hit a double and single with one RBI. Nathanael Addison had two hits and one RBI. Gabe Nations, Turner Pyles and Griffin hit safely.

Spears allowed six runs over five innings to record the win. He struck out four, walked one and surrendered six hits.
