Three Lady Wolves named MACJC All-State

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Kelley Allen, Alexis Collins and Jamilah Sanders were named to the MACJC All-State Basketball Team. Allen received First Team honors, while Sanders and Collins were named to the Second Team.

Allen, a sophomore from Brandon, helped lead the Lady Wolves to the 23-5 season with a strong presence under the basket. Allen led the team with 14.6 points per game, while shooting an impressive 50.5 percent from the floor. Allen also brought down a staggering 254 rebounds during the season averaging 9.1 a game. She also made 60 steals 43 blocks on the season.

Collins, a sophomore playmaker from Jackson, averaged 13.6 points per game this season, and shot just under 40 percent from the floor. Collins moved the ball well around the floor; evident from the 140 assists she dished out on the year. Collins ranked 27th in the nation on assists. She also cracked the top 50 in assist to turnover ratio with 1.9, a key stat for a point guard.

Sophomore Jamilah Sanders, a Canton native, joins Collins on the All-State Second Team. Sanders also averaged double-digit points per game with 10.7 on the year. Sanders, a versatile player, finished plays down low, but was not afraid to pull up for a jumper as she shot 43.3 percent from the floor. Battling an injury late in the season Sanders continued to take the floor and lead the Lady Wolves in a deep post season run.

The Lady Wolves, coached by Hall of Fame Coach Gwyn Young, were semifinalists in the MACJC State Tournament and runners-up in the NJCAA Region 23 Tournament. Young is assisted by Coach Nikki Williams.
