Funeral services for R.B. “Dunk” Wallace, of Summit, are Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of McComb with burial in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery in Franklin County. Dr. Woody Rimes and Dr. Larry LeBlanc will officiate. Jones Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements. 

Visitation was Monday, March 14, 2016, from 5 until 8 p.m. and Tuesday, March 15, 2016, from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Pallbearers will be David Wallace, Robert Lusk, Keith Lott, Don Geddie, Harry Wells, Shea Johnson and Russell Schmidt. Honorary pallbearers will be Holton Lofton, Glen Alexander and J.H. Reeves.

Mr. Wallace, 89, died Saturday, March 12, 2016, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in McComb.

Mr. Wallace was well known as owner/operator of WA and RB Wallace Lumber Company in Franklin County in which he and his father started together. He owned two sawmills in McCall Creek that were both destroyed by fires. In 1967 he purchased the sawmill in Roxie, which operated as Franklin County Lumber Company until 1979. He then sold the sawmill and retired to become a full-time farmer where he planted row crops and farmed cattle.

Mr. Wallace has always been a faithful Christian man, growing up in church he attended Concord Baptist Church and upon moving to McComb, he attended North McComb Baptist. He and Mrs. Betty later joined First Baptist Church in McComb where he has been a faithful member ever since. He loved his church family dearly.

He was instrumental in starting a local nursing home ministry over 50 years ago beginning at Rueff’s Nursing Home. One of his favorite things to do was visit nursing home patients on Sunday morning and help lead church services for them.

Mr. Wallace was a big supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, and he loved inviting them out to his property where he had them a campground to use there.  He was also a supporter of Parklane Academy Athletics, especially football and basketball.  He and Lennox Jackson were instrumental in building the field house, which is named in their honor.  He was a Mason in the John A. Quitman Lodge for over 50 years.  He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp at Deer Park.  He also loved to fox hunt and going to field trials.  He also had a passion for horses. He owned a horse named Robert who won the World Grand Champion Racking Competition.

Mr. Dunk Wallace was no doubt a Godly man who never met a stranger. He was a devoted and faithful husband, father and grandfather.  He loved his family with all of his heart.

Preceding him in death were his parents; son, Albert Bruce Wallace; brother, William Albert Wallace; and sister, Addie Marie Sumrall.

Survivors are his wife of 65 years, Betty Jean Quinn Wallace of Summit; four children, Randy Wallace of Summit, Mark and wife, Melinda Wallace, of Summit, Gale Knighton and husband, Emmette, of Centerville and Bill Wallace and wife, Laney, of Summit; nine grandchildren Kelly Wallace, Kayla Wallace, Maryanna Davis and husband, Leighton, Katie Wallace, David Wallace, Emily Watts and husband, Jamie, Mallory Petitto and husband, A.J., Emme Wallace and Miriam Wallace; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild;  two special friends Dorothy Bounds and Terry Wilkinson.
