Bulldogs sweep Jefferson County

Led by Chris Cantrell’s nine strikeouts, the Franklin High Bulldogs collected a sweep of rival Jefferson County on the diamond Friday.

FC won a doubleheader 7-0 and 15-1 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

In game one of the series, the Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first inning and added five more runs in the bottom half of the second frame.

Jacob McDaniel collected the win for the Bulldogs with four strikeouts in three innings of work. Jace Watts closed the game out with three strikeouts in the fourth inning.

The contest was called after the 10-run mercy rule in the bottom of the fourth.

Jefferson County made seven errors in the game, which led the Bulldogs’ scoring spree in the first two innings.

Nathan Veridin and Dalivan Hunt led the Bulldogs with two hits apiece. Verdin had a game high three RBIs.

Devone Day absorbed the loss for Jefferson County, despite striking out four.

In the second contest, Cantrell threw a gem as he kept Jefferson County off-balanced with an assortment of pitches that dazed the visitors.

Cantrell threw a one-hitter and was aided by a three-run third inning to notch the victory. He struck out nine in seven innings.

Coached by Brent Calcote, the Bulldogs were led at the plate by Will Moffett, Thomas Slagle, and Antonio Christmas with two hits and two RBIs.

Day suffered the loss for Jefferson County.

The Bulldogs play host to Crystal Springs Thursday afternoon at 4.
