Funeral services for Jewell Wesley Lovett of McComb are Thursday, March 24, 2016, at 11 a.m. at Jones Family Funeral Services Chapel with burial in the Hollywood Cemetery. Jones Family Funeral Services is in charge of arrangements. 

Visitation is Wednesday, March 23, 2016, from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and Thursday, March 24, 2016, from 9 a.m. until time of services.

Mr. Lovett, 80, died Sunday, March 20, 2016, at Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center. He was born Feb. 14, 1936, in McComb to Mary Frances Lovett and Paul E. Lovett Sr.

Pallbearers will be Hollis Harrell, Bobby May, Benny May, Bonnie May, Robert Hollywood and Bobby Bacot.

He retired after 38 years from the Mississippi State Highway Department as district maintenance superintendent of the seventh district. He was a lifelong faithful member of the Pearl River Avenue Methodist Church serving as church lay leader, delegate to annual conference, secretary, treasurer, board of trustees and church choir. He also served as secretary and treasurer for the Brookhaven District of United Methodist Men. He was a mason and served several years as worthy patron in Queen Esther Chapter Number 4 and Bogue Chitto Chapter Number 263 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a retired veteran serving as staff sergeant E-6 in the Company D 1St BG 155th Infantry.

Mr. Lovett will be remembered for his Christian love and humor that was extended to all those that he came in contact with. For the many delicious ice-box cakes and casseroles he prepared for others and the beautiful songs he sang at various functions. He loved people and enjoyed family and friends. In his younger days he enjoyed touring the United States with his wife, Patricia, behind him on his Goldwing Aspencade, traveling through 45 states, through to the provinces of Canada. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and spending time with his valentine, Patricia.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his in-laws, Glen E. May and Ophelia May; half-brother, William F. Powell Jr.; maternal aunts, Melissa Harrell and Carrie M. Simmons; maternal uncles, Frank Chapman, Eddie Chapman and J. A. Chapman; paternal aunt, Alison Brown; paternal uncles, Clarence Junior Lovett and Lamar Lovett; brothers-in-law, Glen May, Glover May, Eddie May, Everett O’Quin and Aaron O’Quin; and sisters-in-law, Fredia O’Quin, Alice O’Quin, Venus Hollywood Kyzar, Jane May, Ina May, Sandra May, Sue May and Helen May.

Survivors are his loving wife, Patricia Ann May Lovett; half-brothers, Paul E. Lovett Jr., Walter Lovett and Raymond Lovett (Stephanie), all of North Carolina; paternal aunt Evelyn Dearman of Quitman; brothers-in-law, Donald May (Nancy) of Bossier City, Louisiana and Wayne May (Cindy) of McComb; special cousin, Hollis Harrell and husband, Frances; special friend, Shelia W. Gaskin; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
