The West Lincoln Bears defeated the Prentiss Bulldogs 14-1 Monday night in a Region 7-2A make-up contest.

The Bears plated 14 runs in the first three innings to put the game out of reach early.

A two-run double by Lofton Sills, an RBI single by Daniel Spears, a two-run single by Brady Thompson, a two-run single by Austin Burris and a sacrifice fly by Kylar Fielder during the first inning and a sacrifice fly by Thompson in the second inning supplied the early offense for the West Lincoln.

Sills racked up three RBIs on three hits for the Bears.

Prentiss couldn’t get anything going as long as Fielder was on the mound. Prentiss managed just one hit off of West Lincoln’s pitcher, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five during his four innings of work.

The Bears increased their lead with five runs in the third. Fielder’s double got things going, plating Burris. That was followed up by Seth Bivens’s single, scoring Jayden Rushing.

Sills powered the Bears with a double and two singles. Austin Burris, Brady Thompson and Dillon Griffin ripped a pair of singles each. Fielder provided a double. Bivens, Spears and Addison hit safely.

“It was good to take care of business tonight,” said West Lincoln coach David Gilbert. “Fielder pitched well only giving up one hit, so I was glad to see him settle in and throw strikes. Our hitters exploded in the first inning, which is always good to see. We got two more conference games this week so it was good to start off on the right foot early in the week.”

West Lincoln travels to Liberty to battle the Amite County Trojans today. Junior varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
