The Loyd Star Lady Hornets defeated the West Lincoln Lady Bears 6-2 in fastpitch Region 7-2A softball action Tuesday at West Lincoln.

The Lady Hornets (4-2, 1-0), coached by Jan Delaughter, will continue action today when they host the Bassfield Lady Yellowjackets for another big division test. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30.

The Lady Bears (5-3, 0-1), coached by Andrew Redd, will be in action today as they visit the Enterprise Lady Jackets for a varsity game only starting at 4 p.m.

Lady Hornets 6, Lady Bears 2 

The Lady Hornets came out strong in the first two innings to claim a 4-0 lead. In the bottom of the third inning, West Lincoln managed to cut into Loyd Star’s lead with a RBI single by Makenzie Pyles.

The Lady Hornets would score one run in the fifth inning, and matched that run total in the sixth. In the fifth, Loyd Star scored on an RBI single by Abigail Thornton, scoring Megan Norton.

Loyd Star secured victory thanks to Makenzie Smith’s dominant, six-strikeout performance. Smith allowed one earned run, eight hits and no walks over seven innings.

Megan Gerald suffered the setback for West Lincoln. She allowed six runs in seven innings, walked five and struck out one.

Shelby Smith directed the Lady Hornets’ offense with a triple and a single. Julie Smith, Ali Gartman, Abigail Thornton, Madison Jones and Kelsie McCullough contributed a single each.

Millane Lewis was the top hitter for the Lady Bears with three singles. Anna Brooke Davis, Makennah Redd, Layton Sills, Makenzie Pyles and Peyton White provided a single apiece.

In junior varsity action, West Lincoln prevailed over Loyd Star 3-2. Ashley Tabor pitched the win for the Lady Bears with two strikeouts and two walks.

Aly Floyd absorbed the setback for the Lady Hornets, in relief, with one strikeout and four walks.

Marley Poole (4K, 1BB) started for the Lady Hornets and pitched only two innings.

Skylar Hall, Jana Case, Bailey Wilson and Madelynn Thornton paced the Lady Bears’ offense with a single each.

Lydia Britt and Ta’Maria Townsend led the Lady Hornets at the plate with a single apiece.
