The Loyd Star Lady Hornets picked up an easy division 21-0 win over the Bassfield Lady Yellowjackets Thursday night in fastpitch softball action at Jan Smith Delaughter field.

The Lady Hornets, coached by Jan Delaughter, will resume action Saturday when they travel to Monticello to participate in the Lawrence County tournament. Loyd Star plays Franklin County at 11:30 a.m. and Brookhaven at 2:30 p.m.

The Lady Hornets dominated the Lady Yellowjackets in a three-inning contest. Loyd Star exploded in the first inning with a 17-run surge to take a commanding 17-0 lead.

In the second inning, the Lady Hornets scored four more runs to clinch an easy win as Loyd Star took advantage of Bassfield’s 15 free passes.

Kelsie McCullough had a solid performance on the rubber for the Lady Hornets. She tossed a no hitter against Bassfield, collecting six strikeouts and did not give up a walk.

Ali Gartman and Megan Norton were the top hitters at the plate for the Lady Hornets with a single each.
