The Brookhaven Lady Panthers picked up two big wins in a varsity doubleheader Wednesday night at the Ole Brook Complex.

The Lady Panthers beat the Natchez Lady Bulldogs 18-1 in the opener and defeated the Vicksburg Lady Gators 14-1 in the nightcap.

Brookhaven (7-3, 1-0), coach by Mandy Vinson, will return to action Saturday as they travel to Monticello to participate in Lawrence County’s softball tournament. The Lady Panthers play Loyd Star at 2:30 p.m. and Bogue Chitto at 5:30 p.m.

Brookhaven 18, Natchez 1 

“We were very patient tonight at the plate,” said Vinson. “We executed the bunts really well to move runners around tonight. We talked all week about being aggressive and I think our girls were very aggressive on the bases. Madison pitched a good game, too.”

Kat Wallace led the Lady Panthers at the plate with two singles. Macy Ziskin provided a double. Hitting safely were Tia Bussey, Haley Speaks, Jaden Fuller, Madison Thompson and Maley Moak.

Thompson was the winning pitcher for Ole Brook with five strikeouts and no walks. She allowed Natchez only two hits in the game.

Destiny Trask was the top hitter for the Lady Bulldogs with two singles. Carleigh Sproulls pitched the loss for Natchez.

Brookhaven 14, Vicksburg 1 

The Lady Panthers quickly took care of business in the nightcap against Vicksburg as they feasted on the Lady Gators to collect the win.

“I am proud of the hustle our girls showed the entire game. Kat Shell hit a walk-off grand slam to end the game. This was a good night for everyone,” said Vinson.

Katherine Shell powered the Lady Panthers with a grand slam homerun and a double. Bussey provided a triple and a single. Hitting safely were Wallace, Ziskin, Speaks, and Moak.

Shell pitched the win for Brookhaven with six strikeouts, two walks and gave up only three hits.

Myah Wright paced the Lady Gators at the plate with two singles. Shelby Muirhead hit a double.

Olivia Oakes was the losing pitcher for Vicksburg with three strikeouts and two walks.
