Poplarville slips past North Pike

SUMMIT – The Poplarville Lady Hornets rallied back in the seventh inning to hand the North Pike Lady Jaguars a 7-6 division loss in fastpitch softball action.

The Lady Jaguars, coach by Sonya Wallace, will resume action Tuesday as they host Madison Central. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

Poplarville came out strong in the first two innings of action to claim a 2-0 lead, the Lady Jags roared back to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the third inning.

North Pike would take over the lead in the fourth innings as they pushed across two runs to have a 4-2 advantage.

In the sixth inning, the Lady Hornets would fight their way back into the contest as they plated two runs to tie the game at 4-4, but North Pike would answer back scoring two runs of their own to reclaim the lead at 6-4.

In the top of the seventh inning, Poplarville put together a three-run rally to take over the lead at 7-6 and held on for the win.

Jordan Billiot was the winning pitcher for Poplarville with no strikeouts and four walks.

Madison Bigner absorbed the setback for North Pike with seven strikeouts and three walks.

Jami Spears, Sarah Brock and Madison Bigner were the top hitters at the plate for the Lady Jaguars with a double and a single each. Madison Bates contributed two singles and Janay Maxwell hit safely.

Kaley Lambert paced Poplarville’s offense with a double and a single. Rakeya Travis and Caylen Beall provided a pair of singles. Courtnee Strain had a double.
