Lady Panthers grab two wins in LC tournament

MONTICELLO – The Brookhaven Lady Panthers won two games in the Lawrence County softball tournament Saturday. The Lady Panthers took on the Lady Hornets in the first game and won a hard-fought battle 3-1. They also defeated Bogue Chitto 4-3.

“Katherine Shell pitched two great games today,” said BHS head coach Mandy Vinson. “Our girls battled both games. I’m extremely proud of them today. We hit the ball very well.”

The Lady Panthers (9-3, 1-0) will resume action Tuesday as they travel to Meadville to take on the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6 p.m.

Brookhaven 3, Loyd Star 1 

The Lady Panthers were led at the plate by Jadeyn Fuller with a walk-off, two RBI double to win the game that had gone to an international tiebreaker. Also leading the Panthers was Madison Thompson with three singles. Hitting safely were Tia Bussey and Macy Ziskin.

Katherine Shell was the winning pitcher with eight strikeouts and one walk. Shell had no earned runs in the game.

Abigail Thornton directed the Lady Hornets at the plate with a double. Ali Gartman and Megan Norton had a single apiece.

Makenzie Smith absorbed the setback on the rubber for the Lady Hornets with six strikeouts and one walk.

Brookhaven 4, Bogue Chitto 3 

Jadeyn Fuller powered the Lady Panthers at the plate with a triple. Hitting safely were Tia Bussey, Kat Wallace and Maley Moak.

Shell collected the win in the circle for Brookhaven with three strikeouts and one walk, while giving up no earned runs in the game.

Terrah Nelson and Reagan Kirkland paced the Lady Catswith doubles each. Zariah Matthews, Cherie Savoie and Bailey Jackson finished with a single each. Alana Nettles suffered the setback for BC with one strikeout and three walks.
