Long ball leads Lady Wolves in sweep over Holmes

GOODMAN – Another day of explosive hitting led the Co-Lin Lady Wolves to a doubleheader sweep over the Holmes Lady Bulldogs. Co-Lin rallied to take a 10-5 win in the game one and a 10-2 win in the nightcap Thursday. The team hit a school record seven homeruns in the twinbill to bring the team total to 39 on the season.
The Lady Wolves (20-8) will return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Hinds for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
Co-Lin 10, Holmes 5
The Lady Wolves started the game slowly as the Lady Bulldogs drove in two runs in the first to take the lead. Holmes followed by plating three more runs in the second and extended their lead to 5-0. The game was scoreless for the next three innings.
In the top of the sixth Trevelyn Scott reached on an error. Kaitlyn Taylor hit her first home run of the game a two-run shot to left field that plated pinch runner Greta Carley to cut the lead to 5-2.
The Lady Wolves struck again in the top of the seventh. Kamryn Vanlandingham and Lauren Brashier hit back-to-back singles. Jessica Crum drew a walk to load the bases. Scott singled to center to drive in Vanlandingham. Taylor singled to center to score Brashier. Dianna Hobgood doubled to left field to score pinch runner Mattie Avants as the Lady Wolves tied the game at 5-all.
Co-Lin put the game out of reach in the top of the eighth. Kayla Britt drew a lead off walk. With two outs Lauren Brashier homered over the left field wall to put the Lady Wolves up 7-5. Crum and Avants hit back-to-back singles. Taylor then smashed her second home run of the game, a three-run shot that scored courtesy runner Katie Grace Culpepper and Avants to put the Lady Wolves up 10-5.
“We got off to a sluggish start,” said Lady Wolves head coach Allen Kent. “Kamry Creel did a great job in relief for us. It was a great comeback win. You have to show up ready to play every game in this league.”
Taylor led the Lady Wolves from the plate with two homeruns and a single for six RBIs. Vanlandingham singled twice. Brashier homered and singled for two RBIs. Dianna Hobgood doubled twice for an RBI. Adding support with a single apiece were Crum, Scott (1 RBI), Avants, and Mackenzie Byrd.
For Holmes, Torey Daniels tripled and singled for two RBIs. Anna Garza doubles. Hitting safely were Blair Little, Reagan Aldridge, Hayden Grantham (1 RBI), Abby Stafford and Kasey Poindexter.
Kamry Creel picked up the win for Lady Wolves scattering four hits and striking out two in 4.2 innings. Taylor, started the game, allowed five runs on four hits, walked three and struck out four in 3.1 innings.
Kassey Ard suffered the loss for Holmes after throwing 7.2 innings. She gave up nine runs (eight earned), on 12 hits, walked five and struck out four.

Co-Lin grabbed the lead early in game two as Dianna Hobgood cranked a solo homerun in the second inning.
The Lady Wolves added two more in the third. Kamryn Vanlandingham doubled to center. Jessica Crum followed with a two-run blast that cleared the right field fence to give Co-Lin a 3-0 lead.
Holmes would answer with a run in the bottom of the third when Blair Little hit a solo home run to cut the Lady Wolves lead to 3-1.
In the top of the fifth, the Co-Lin would add to their lead. Mattie Avants singled to right field to lead off the inning. Vanlandingham followed with a homerun to left field to give Co-Lin a 5-1 lead. Kaitlyn Taylor singled and scored on Trevlyn Scott’s double. Hobgood doubled to plate Scott. Jamie Martin singled to center to score Hobgood to increase the Lady Wolves lead to 8-1.
The Lady Wolves final two runs of the day came in the top of the sixth. Crum was hit by a pitch and Taylor homered to left to give Co-Lin to 10-2.
“Trevlynn Scott hurled a great six inning run rule game,” praised Kent. “It was cold and the wind was blowing in, but we hit it pretty good. I’m really proud of how we’re swinging it this year.”
For Co-Lin, Vanlandingham (2 RBIs) and Hobgood (2 RBIs) homered and doubled. Taylor homered and singled (2 RBIs). Scott doubled (1 RBI). Adding support with a single apiece were Crum (2 RBIs), Martin (1 RBI), Brittany Barbay, Avants, and Madison Hyde.
Little led the Lady Bulldogs at the plate with a home run. Hayden Grantham doubled. Hitting safely were Reagan Aldridge, Anna Garza, Kayla Gilmore, Kaleia Lillis, and Poindexter.
Scott tossed the complete game win for the Lady Wolves giving up two runs (1 earned), on seven hits, struck out four, and walked one.
Little suffered the loss for Holmes allowed eight runs on nine hits, struck out one and walked one in 4.2 innings of work. Poindexter also saw action in the circle tossing 1.1 innings giving up two runs on three hits and striking out one.
