A Magnolia man was killed in a single-car accident on I-55 Monday morning, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry said Willie Thomas, 57, was traveling north on I-55 in a 2004 Honda Accord when it left the roadway.

The driver over-corrected and went through the median/guard rails, crossing the south bound lane of traffic. The vehicle then came into contact with a tree on the west side of I-55.  The driver was transported to Southwest Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, Fortenberry said.
