Vanlandingham, Taylor lead Lady Wolves over Hinds

RAYMOND – Kamryn Vanlandingham went 7-for-9 and Kaitlyn Taylor hit a grand slam to lead the Co-Lin Lady Wolves to a doubleheader sweep over the Hinds Lady Eagles Tuesday. Co-Lin took game one 11-7 and won the nightcap 7-2.

The Lady Wolves (22-8, 13-5) will host Coahoma on Saturday for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

The bottom of the first saw Hinds take an early lead, 1-0. Tory Laird led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice by Gabby Franklin. A double by Meagan Duchesne scored Tory Laird.

Co-Lin scratched four runs in the top of the third inning. Kayla Britt led off the inning with a single. Mattie Avants reached on a sacrifice bunt. Vanlandingham singled, but Britt was thrown out advancing to third. Lauren Brashier singled, but Avants was thrown out advancing to third. Jessica Crum drew a walk. Taylor smashed a grand slam over the centerfield wall to give the Lady Wolves a 4-1 lead.

Hinds tied the game at 4-all in the bottom of the inning highlighted by a two-run double by Kaitlynn Dardar.

The Lady Wolves took the lead for good in the top of the fifth inning on an RBI single by Dianna Hobgood that brought home courtesy runner Greta Carley to put Co-Lin up 5-4.

In the top of the sixth, Co-Lin added three more runs. With one out, Avants singled and advanced to second. Vanlandingham singled and advanced to third on a on an error as Avants scored. Brashier’s RBI single to center scored Vanlandingham to give the Lady Wolves a 7-4 lead. Crum and Taylor hit back-to-back singles. Dianna Hobgood’s RBI single to center plated courtesy runner Carley to increase the Co-Lin lead to 8-4.

In the bottom of the inning, the Lady Eagles scored three runs to cut the Co-Lin lead to 8-7.

The Lady Wolves put the game away in the top of the seventh scoring three runs. With one out, Jamie Martin doubled. Avants reached on a sacrifice bunt. Vanlandingham’s two RBI double, plated pinch runner Kayla Britt and Avants. Co-Lin’s final run of the game can on Brashier’s ground out that scored Vanlandingham to give the Lady Wolves the 11-7 lead.

Taylor pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, six hits and three walks while striking out four to get the win. Kamry Creel relieved Taylor in the seventh giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits.

Amberlee Nix absorbed the loss giving up 11 earned runs and walking two.

The Lady Wolves pounded out 20 hits in the game. Vanlandingham went a perfect 5-5 at the plate with a double and four singles (2 RBIs). Crum had a double and a pair of singles. Hobgood had three singles (1 RBI). Taylor had a grand slam and a single (4 RBis). Avants and Brashier (2 RBIs) each added a pair of singles. Martin doubled and Trevlyn Scott and Britt added support with a single apiece.

For Hinds, Duchene had a double and a pair of singles (1 RBI). Dardar had a pair of doubles (3 RBIs). Ei’mon Brown had a pair of singles (1 RBI). Bree Glen Doubled (1 RBI).

Co-Lin grabbed the early 1-0 lead in the first inning as Kamryn Vanlandingham doubled to centerfield, advanced to third on Lauren Brashier’s ground out, and scored on Jessica Crum’s dropped third strike.

Hinds took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third inning as Meagan Duchesne doubled home Tory Laird and Kaitlynn Dardar’s single.

The Lady Wolves regained the lead in the to of the fourth inning. Crum led off the inning with a single. Courtesy runner Greta Carley stole second and advanced to third on Kaitlyn Taylor’s ground out. Dianna Hobgood drew a walk. Carley scored as Hobgood stole second, third and home putting Co-Lin up 3-2.

In the top of the fifth, the Lady Wolves increased their lead to 7-2. Mattie Avants drew a lead off walk and stole second. Vanlandingham followed with a double to left field. Crum smashed line drive double to left field to score Avants and Vanlandingham. Taylor singled to right field. Carley and Taylor scored on an error by the right fielder.

Trevlyn Scott pitched the complete game and picked up the win. She allowed two runs on seven hits, struck out two and walked three.

Duchene took the loss giving up seven runs (four earned) on six hits, struck out two and walked five in five innings. Faith Thomas relieved Duchene tossing two innings and scattering three hits.

At the plate for Co-Lin, Crum led the way with a double and a pair of singles for three RBIs. Vanlandingham had a pair of doubles. Adding support with a single apiece were Brashier, Taylor, Jamie Martin and Brittany Barbay.

Duchene led the Lady Eagles with a double and a single. Laird, Alexis Kinard, Ki’mon Brown, and Lexie Gulon hit safely.
