Lady Jaguars prevail over Poplarville

POPLARVILLE – The North Pike Lady Jaguars defeated the Poplarville Lady Hornets 9-4 Thursday night in division fastpitch softball action.

The Lady Jaguars (7-3, 2-1), coached by Sonya Wallace, are schedule to be in action today as they travel to Northwest Rankin. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

North Pike and Poplarville battled in close 4-4 contest in the first four innings of action, before the Lady Jaguars managed to take charge of the contest outscoring the Lady Hornets 5-0 in the last three innings to secure the win.

Madison Bigner was the winning pitcher for North Pike with two strikeouts and three walks.

Victoria Pertuit suffered the loss on the rubber for Poplarville with two strikeouts and two walks.

Linley Smith and Baylee Bryant powered the Lady Jaguars’ offense with a double and a single each. Jami Spears contributed two singles. Sarah Brock, Madison Bigner, Jenna Brock and Janay Maxwell hit safely.

Courtnee Strain was the leader at the plate for the Lady Hornets with two singles. Rakeya Travis, Manya Gilmore and Samantha Shields provided a single each.

In junior varsity action, Poplarville edge North Pike 2-1.

Madison Moak and Meredith Bates were the top hitters for North Pike (5-2) with a single each.
