Panthers fall to Natchez

NATCHEZ – The Brookhaven Panthers dropped a 13-7 decision to the Natchez Bulldogs Friday night in Region 6-5A baseball action.

Brookhaven jumped on Natchez early to claim a 5-0 lead, but the Bulldogs answered in the bottom of the first with eight runs.

The Panthers scored a run in the second and third innings, while Natchez scored only once in the second to maintain a 9-7 advantage.

The score would remain the same until the bottom of the sixth, when Natchez added four runs to claim the 13-7 win.

Brookhaven pitcher Blaine Moak baffled Natchez, striking out four batters. He allowed only one earned run on four hits and two walks over 4 2/3 innings. Sevante Quinn (1K, 4BB) started for the Panthers.

Reese Reynaud went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Panthers. He reached base three times with a single in the first and third innings. Jacob Porter contributed a double and a single. Clint Stephens provided two singles. Brandon Henyard, Blaine Moak, Darrian Wilson, Tate Walley and Jon Mark Mathis hit safely.

Shavokee Herrington was the winning pitcher for the Bulldogs with five strikeouts and one walk.

Natchez was sparked by Jatavis Melton with a double, three singles and four RBIs. Dalvion Jackson hit a double and a single. Herrington provided a double. Hitting safely were Jadarius Ivory, Quincy Henderson, Tydarius Terrell and Ernest Woods.
