COLUMBIA – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars jumped out to an early 1-0 lead over Columbia Academy and held steady through the bottom of the third inning when an untimely miscue resulted in a four-run swing. That momentum changer allowed home-standing Columbia to cruise to an eventual 11-1 victory Saturday.
Carter Culbertson, Fisher Warren, Dawson Flowers and William King each singled for the Cougars in the contest. Logan Bullock led Columbia with two hits on the afternoon.
Warren suffered the setback on the mound for BA, striking out three Columbia batters while giving up seven hits.
“We put ourselves in a position to compete and a couple of plays we should make that we didn’t really hurt us and completely swung the energy of the game to their side,” said BA head coach Tyler Parvin. “Columbia is a top notch team and you just can’t give them extra chances.”
Jonathon Broughton picked up the pitching win for Columbia.
BA travels to Simpson Academy today for a district contest and they return home Friday to face Simpson to complete the series. JV first pitch is scheduled for 5 pm followed by varsity action at 7.
