Lady Jackets defeat Lawrence Co., fall to Sumrall

The Enterprise Lady Jackets fell to the Sumrall Lady Bobcats 3-2, but bounced back to defeat the Lawrence County Lady Cougars 8-3 Saturday night in Ole Brook’s softball tournament.

Sumrall secured a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Sumrall’s Christen Williamson started off with a single. Ember West followed with a single of her own that scored Williamson for the first run in the inning. Kaitlyn Russell finished the inning with a homerun that sailed over the right field wall.

Despite some good hitting by the Lady Jackets, Sumrall held the Lady Jackets scoreless through four innings. Haley Nation’s strong pitching allowed the Lady Jackets to stay in the game.

In the fifth inning, the Lady Jackets closed the gap at 3-2. But Sumrall’s defense would stop the rally to collect the win.

Sumrall’s Ember West picked up the win with six strikeouts, while Kayln Chemin, (2K, 0BB), suffered the loss.

Lady Jacket’s Brook Foster and Abby Meredith both hit a double. Kinsey Dahlin hit two singles. Lauren Gartman hit a single and double. Haley Nations hit safely with single and one RBI. She also struck out nine batters.

Sumrall’s Kaitlyn Russell had a homerun and two RBIs. Christen Williamson and Ember West hit safely with a single each. Ember West also had one RBI.

Enterprise 8, Lawrence County 3 

The Lady Jackets’ second game of the night saw a pitchers’ duel that went into extra innings.

A throwing error from the Lady Jackets allowed the Lady Cougars to take an early 1-0 lead in the second. The Lady Jackets tied the game, 1-1, in the second inning.

With the game time expired and tied, the tiebreaker rule came into play. Both teams would score one run in the sixth inning. As the seventh inning ended, both teams were still tied at 3-3.

The Lady Jackets would come to life in the eighth, scoring five runs to earn the win.

Haley Nations took the win for the Lady Jackets, while Jordan Harp suffered the loss for the Lady Cougars.

“I am so proud of our girls. They battled inning after inning and it paid off for them. Now we will prepare for the next game,” said Enterprise coach Charissa Burke.

Carlee Nations, Jana Nations, Brook Foster and Lauren Gartman led the Lady Jackets with a double each. Lauren Gartman also had a single and two RBIs. Brook Foster also had two RBIS. Carlee Nations had five strikeouts. Haley Nations, Kinsey Dahlin, Carly Polk, and Abby Meredith each had a single. Haley Nations finished with seven strikeouts. Abby Meredith had one RBI. Kaylin Chemin hit safely with three singles and had two RBIS.

Lady Cougar Callie Fortenberry hit for a double and single. Maddy Kirkland and Julianna Johnson both had two singles. Julianna Johnson also had one RBI. Elizabeth Smith hit safely with one single.
