Cobras thump Jefferson County

FAYETTE – The Wesson Cobras crushed the Jefferson County Tigers 14-1 Tuesday night in Region 7-3A baseball action.

The Cobras (11-3, 5-0), coached by Seth Lofton, will be in action today when they host the Crystal Springs Tigers for a varsity game only, starting at 4 p.m. Wesson will also be in action Friday when they host Jefferson County. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 7 p.m.

Six runs in the first inning allowed the Cobras to easily put away Jefferson County. A RBI single by Alex Mooney, a RBI single by Bolon Tadlock, a groundout by Preston Middleton and a two-run triple by Will Hulon led the early attack.

The Cobras added eight more runs in the fourth to increase their lead to 14-1.

Alex Mooney threw a no-hitter and picked up the win. He allowed only one run while striking out nine batters and walking six.

Christian Day suffered the loss for Jefferson County with four strikeouts and six walks.

Jeremy Smith, Bolon Tadlock and Will McInnis powered the Cobras with a double and a single each. Will Hulon provided a triple. Slay Acy and Alex Mooney hit safely.
