Loyd Star blasts Amite County

LIBERTY – The Loyd Star Hornets knocked off the Amite County Trojans 16-1 Friday to remain undefeated in Region 7-2A baseball action.

“Glad to get another district win,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. “Now, we are in control of our own destiny in the district hunt. We need to work on getting better starts in games and clean up some things on defense.”

The Hornets (13-5, 8-0) will return to action Tuesday when they travel to West Lincoln to take on the Bears. Junior varsity action starts at 4:30, followed the varsity contest at 6:30 p.m.

Loyd Star 16, Amite County 1

Loyd Star plated two early runs, and caught fire in the third inning with a 14-run surge to put the game out of reach with a 16-0 advantage.

The Trojans managed to score their only run in the bottom of the third inning, and Loyd Star clinched the win on a 15-run mercy rule.

Levi Redd went the distance on the mound for the Hornets to earn the win with six strikeouts and one walk.

Kyler Smith suffered the loss for Amite County with no strikeouts and four walks.

Logan Murray was the top hitter at the plate for the Hornets with a double and two singles. Cade Hodges contributed three singles. Bradyn Brister provided two singles. Konner Allen, Levi Redd, Cole Smith and Parker Flowers hit safely.

In junior varsity action,  Loyd Star was victorious over Amite County.

Rials Hester was the winning pitcher for the Hornets.

Dane Smith led the Hornets with three singles. James Beard contributed a double and a single. Dawson Zumbro provided two doubles. Cullen Keene, Logan Smith, Dylan Case and Patrick Price had two singles each. Hester and Logan Murray finished with a double each.
