Wesson hammers Jefferson County

The Wesson Cobras defeated the Jefferson County Tigers 11-1 Friday night to remain undefeated in Region 7-3A play.

The Cobras (13-3, 8-0), coached by Seth Lofton, will return to action Tuesday when they host the Franklin County Bulldogs for a big division test. Junior varsity action begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

The Cobras jumped out to an early lead, scoring six runs to put the game away.

Jeremy Smith racked up four RBIs on two hits for Wesson Cobras. He singled in the first inning and homered in the fourth inning.

Preston Middleton handled Jefferson County’s lineup with ease, racking up eight strikeouts. Middleton allowed one earned run, two hits and three walks over five innings.

Jefferson County scored its only run in the top of the fifth inning, but Wesson answered in the bottom of the fifth, adding two runs to win the contest.

Smith powered the Cobras with a homerun and a single. Max Daughdrill contributed a double and a single. Alex Mooney provided a double. Payton Selman had two singles. Derek Freeman hit safely.

Josh Day and Christian Day paced the Tigers with a single each.
