Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to an accident involving a military vehicle and a tractor at 12:48 p.m. Monday on Hwy. 84 E., near Hwy. 184.
Mississippi Highway Patrol Troop M Spokesman Cpl. Brandon Fortenberry said a National Guard military truck from Natchez was traveling east on Hwy. 84 when it came into contact with the rear of a tractor in the right lane of Hwy. 84, driven by Oliver Rodgers of Monticello.
After impact, the tractor came to rest on its side in the right lane of the highway and Rodgers was ejected, Fortenberry said. The military vehicle stopped on the south shoulder of the highway, he said.
Rodgers was taken to King’s Daughters Medical Center and was then airlifted to the University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson with serious injuries, Fortenberry said. The two occupants of the military truck were not injured, he said.
The accident is still under investigation, Fortenberry said.
This is the second accident in the past week involving a vehicle and tractor on Hwy. 84 E. MHP reported a vehicle and tractor accident Saturday afternoon on Hwy. 84 E. that resulted in the death of Charles K. Carr, 62, of Monticello.
