The Brookhaven Panthers captured a split Saturday, crushing the McComb Tigers 22-6 in the first game in McComb and losing to the North Pike Jaguars 13-6 in the late game in Summit.

The Panthers (7-13, 5-1), coached by Randy Springs, will resume action today when they travel to Jackson to battle the Wingfield Falcons in a varsity doubleheader. Action begins at 5 p.m.

Brookhaven 22, McComb 6

The Panthers dominated the Tigers in a four-inning contest, plating two runs in the first, six runs in the second and two more runs in the third inning to secure 10-1 lead.

The Tigers fought back in the bottom of the third inning, scoring five runs to keep the game close at 10-6, but Brookhaven responded with a 12-run explosion in the top of the fourth inning to put away McComb.

Tate Walley was the winning pitcher for the Panthers with two strikeouts and two walks. Trace Owens (1K, 1BB) also pitched in relief.

Tyler Mixon powered the Panthers with three singles. Blaine Moak contributed a double and a single. Clint Stephens provided two singles. Reese Reynaud, Tate Walley, Jacob Porter, Sevante Quinn and Jon Mark Mathis hit safely.

North Pike 13, Brookhaven 6

Trailing 6-1 after two innings of action, Brookhaven fought hard to make a comeback, scoring three runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth inning. But North Pike answered Ole Brook’s challenge to maintain its lead, scoring two runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings, before finishing off the Panthers in the sixth inning with three more runs.

Brookhaven used a three-man rotation against the Jaguars. Sevante Quinn suffered the setback on the mound for the Panthers with two strikeouts and three walks. Blaine Moak (0K, 1BB) and Trace Owens (0K, 2BB) pitched in relief.

Tate Walley directed the Panthers with three singles. Tyler Mixon contributed two singles. Clint Stephens provided a double. Hitting safely was Reese Reynaud and Sevante Quinn.
