The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is in search of an individual who shot a man Monday evening after flagging a vehicle down for assistance.

Lawrence County Sheriff Lessie Butler said the sheriff’s office responded to a call of a shooting at 7:18 p.m. on East Lincoln Road. Butler said three individuals were traveling down East Lincoln Road when a man in another vehicle on the road flagged them down.

The driver exited the vehicle to check on the man, only to be shot in the right shoulder, Butler said. The passengers of the vehicle said after firing one shot, the unidentified individual sped off, he said.

The victim was transported to Lawrence County Hospital and then to University of Mississippi Medical Center in Jackson, Butler said.

At this time, the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is pursuing tips from the public in an effort to apprehend the shooter, Butler said.
