Lady Hornets crush Bassfield

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets blanked the Bassfield Lady Jackets 17-0 Monday at Jan Delaughter Field in a division make-up game.

The Lady Hornets (16-5, 7-1) needed just three innings to secure the blowout.

“Glad to get the win,” said Loyd Star coach Jan Delaughter. “The girls played hard. I was pleased with their efforts.”

The Lady Hornets will be in action today when they take on the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats in the Strike Out Cancer game. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity contest at 6:30 p.m.

Lady Hornets 17, Lady Jackets 0 

Carly Beth Wallace led off the Lady Hornets’ offensive onslaught in the first inning with a single. Meagan Poole would follow with a inside-the-park homerun. Madison Jones and Makenzie Smith each scored on wild pitches that sailed over the catcher’s head. Wild pitches would continue to haunt the Lady Yellowjackets as Marley Pool would also score.

In the second inning, the Lady Hornets loaded the bases twice. Walks and more wild pitches brought in 13 runs for the Lady Hornets.

Ali Gartman (2K, 0BB) pitched the win for the Lady Hornets. Kelsie McCullough, (3K, 0BB) pitched the third inning in relief.

Ty Thomas (12 BB) took the loss in the circle for the Lady Yellowjackets.

Meagan Poole powered the Lady Hornets at the plate with a homerun. Hitting safely were Shelby Smith, Carly Beth Wallace and Johnna Norman.
